This year has passed in a great blur. As I'm slapped with the realization that Christmas is a week away (and 2008 is around the corner), I consider how 2007 has been great to me. I'm deeply in love with my beautiful wife, God has provided for us everything we need (and more), I am building some excellent friendships, and I now have two sisters in my family (Amy and Steph). This year, I have also started a new job, made serious progress in grad-school, and through all of this, my strength and confidence in God's plans has increased.
As I consider the past 10 years, I can find one or two great lessons that I have learned each year. Over this last year I have recognized that life doesn't ever get easier, but rather, we get stronger. This has revolutionized my prayer life. For years, I have looked to the next phases in life; hoping, that the grass would be greener (simpler) on the other side. But that is not how life works. With more experience comes more wisdom; and with more wisdom, more responsiblity. And so now I pray, not that God would make things easier tomorrow, but that He would strengthen me for today.
The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. (Exodus 13:21)
